Becker Pipes began with a father and son carving pipes in the attic to give away at their local shop. Fritz Becker, the father, fled Nazi occupation of Austria, helped British intelligence, and served in the World Jewish Congress - all before becoming a pipe maker. Paolo Becker, the son, brought a greater interest in design when he joined his father’s attic shop in 1974.
Father and son approached Giorgio Musico of Carmignani, a tobacco shop in Rome. Fritz asked if he could give pipes to customers as gifts. By 1980, the Beckers moved from making pipes for Giorgio’s shop to launching their own brand. Eventually, the Beckers and Musico opened a shop together in 1989. David Fields began importing the Beckers to America in 1981.
The Beckers continued to grow their business into a company with an international reputation for truly artistic design and expert technical skill.
