Skip has been specializing in selling
pipes since 1974 and feels he understands what people like about pipes. This
includes accurately shaped as well as correctly drilled pipes. He has been making
pipes since 1998 in the workshop behind his house in Maylene, Alabama
using well aged briar from Greece.
The sanding process involves
eight steps which are done by hand starting with a 80 grit for rough sanding and
culminating with a 2000 grit. The advantage of the 2000 grit is a superior finish
that lasts long after the carnauba wax has melted away.
The stems are usually made from acrylic material. Some are hand
cut while others are molded. In all cases a Delrin tenon is used for flexibility and
heat resistance. The air hole through the stem is tapered for better flow and less
moisture.
Skip operates The Briary full time and supplements his business by
producing these pipes. As you might expect there is not a lot of time for pipe
making so production is very low. Contact
