Upon a base of aged Virginia, smoky Latakia mixes with some spicy Orientals. The Virginias supply a steady note through the whole bowl of citrus, but the Orientals come through on every puff. Blended for the piper looking for a benchmark of Balkan blends. Expect medium body and flavor.
Given Gawith & Hoggarth’s claims for this tobacco, I expected a more light citrus smoke, but the Latakia stayed out front for most of the bowl. Toward the end, the Virginias step into the spotlight and are complemented by the Orientals for a deep citrus note. I found this to be a more traditional Latakia English than a Balkan, so if you’re looking for an introduction to Balkans, definitely give this one a try.
